Jun Ichikawa's representative work, revived in 4K remaster, gets its first-ever Blu-ray release, long awaited by fans! Released in 2005, "Tony Takitani" is a film based on Haruki Murakami's novel of the same name. The ending, which differs from the novel and emerged from numerous FAX exchanges between the director and the author, also became a talking point at the time of release. The director was Jun Ichikawa, who moved from TV commercial director to the film world. Known for works such as "Tsugumi" (based on Banana Yoshimoto's original), "Tokyo Lullaby", which became the first film by a Japanese to win the Best Director award at the Montreal World Film Festival, and this film, which won three awards including the Special Jury Prize at the Locarno Film Festival, his fame was spreading across the world, but he passed away at age 59 from a cerebral hemorrhage. The cast is led by Issey Ogata, Japan's foremost master of the one-man play, and Rie Miyazawa, who continues to appear in talked-about works such as director Yuya Ishii's "The Moon" and Hirokazu Kore-eda's Netflix drama "Asura"; the narration features Hidetoshi Nishijima, who earned worldwide acclaim in "Drive My Car", directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi and based on a Haruki Murakami original. With the actors' sure skill and delicate direction joined by Ryuichi Sakamoto's beautiful sound, the film succeeds in visualizing a world that is somehow low in temperature, hard-edged, and translucent. In recent years, revival screenings of Japanese films such as "Linda Linda Linda" and "Nana" have flourished, and this film too, a 4K remaster version produced under the supervision of cinematographer Taishi Hirokawa and recording engineer Yasuo Hashimoto, was released from March 2026, captivating many viewers with its beautifully revived images and sound. -- Tony Takitani's name really was Tony Takitani. Tony had always been alone. He thought he was fine being alone. Having succeeded as an illustrator, Tony eventually felt an unprecedented love for one beautiful woman. The lonely time of his life ended when he finally met his most beloved person. The one thing that bothered him was that his wife bought far too many clothes. The fleeting happiness was lost to his wife's accidental death, leaving only a wardrobe full of size-7 clothes. Tony advertised for an assistant the same size as his wife and asked her to wear his wife's clothes as a uniform...
